Postini Delivery Problems Alienate Users

In 2007, Google acquired Postini, an email security and archiving service that scans email for malware.

When Postini encountered considerable delivery problems last week due to a bad email filter update and “a power-related hardware failure”, users were particularly vexed by Postini’s lack of communication regarding this problem.

As reported by InformationWeek, the day-long outage triggered pages upon pages of complaints at the Postini Help Forum.

This incident is one in a series of similar events, such as a 100-minute Gmail outage in early September, a Gmail outage in August, a major Google outage in May, and a Gmail outage in February.

However, Google is not the only company experiencing such problems. As reported earlier, Microsoft’s Danger has been fighting with major data loss and availability issues as well that affected T-Mobile users for approx. one week.

Similarly around 150,000 Facebook users encountered login problems over the course of one week about a week ago.

If you would like to assure you have taken proper precautions against malware and to assure that your disaster preparedness plan is covering all bases, contact us today.
